Most of us want to do things our own way. We make our own mistakes, and we learn from them- this is what makes each life different. It is important to learn from the experiences of others, though, because this is what creates progress. It would be silly for all of us to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Each generation build upon the experiences and wisdom of the generations that came before.
